Our Daily Prayers

Prayers We Say At School

At St. Theresa’s Catholic Primary School, the children are taught traditional Catholic prayers. These prayers are encouraged to be used at home to support parents in developing their children’s knowledge of prayer and to continue to develop their children’s understanding of what the words mean to us as Christians today.

Morning Prayer

Father in heaven, you love me.
You are with me night and day.
I want to love you always in all you do and say.
I’ll try to please you Father
Bless me through the day.

End of the School Day Prayer

God Our Father, I come to say
Thank you for your love today,
Thank you for my family and all the friends you give to me,
Guard me in the dark of night and in the morning send your light.

Amen

Here are some more prayers we use throughout our School day:

We begin our prayers with the Sign of the Cross, touching forehead, chest and shoulders with our right hand. This reminds us of Christ’s Cross by which He redeemed us.

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace!
The Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy, Mary Mother of God
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy queen, mother of mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve, to thee do we send
up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this valley, of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us; and
after this our exile show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God
That we may be made worthy of the
promises of Christ.

Amen.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as
we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.

Amen

Synod Prayer

We stand before You,
Holy Spirit,
as we gather together
in Your name.
With You alone to guide us,
make Yourself at home
in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go
and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful;
do not let us promote
disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead
us down the wrong path

nor partiality influence our
actions.
Let us find in You our unity
so that we may journey
together to eternal life
and not stray from
the way of truth
and what is right.
All this we ask of You,
who are at work in every
place and time,
in the communion of the
Father and the Son,
forever and ever. Amen.
